BEBA AGENDA August 20, 2001
Attending in person
meeting at 1105 N Ontare Road: Dorothy Adler, Michael Brightwood, Raymond
Castellino, Marla Van Stein. Christie Barrack unable to attend (gave Sandra her
input on decisions to be made).
1. Review notes from previous
board meeting of 6/18/01
2. Video presentation by Ray
3. Report on clinic (see Report)
4. Name and Mission Statement:
a. Current name (has no "research" in it: BEBA
(Building and Enhancing Bonding and Attachment): A Center for Family Healing.
b. Need the word "Research" somewhere in the name or mission statement or
both.
c. A Center for Family
Healing and Research ?? A Research Center for Family Healing. Discuss differences.
d. Current: BEBA's mission is to support
families to resolve prenatal, birth and other early traumas while facilitating
healthy growth and relationships.
e. Suggestion by Sandra: BEBA
supports families to resolve prenatal, birth and other early trauma, both
physical and emotional, while facilitating effective parenting and the healthy
growth of children. (This is
what I wrote for publicity release). "Research" in the Mission Statement??
5. Discussion about the need for
an Executive Director Ð Sandra can't do all that's needed and how to finance
that.
6. Decision about parent not
wanting to pay full fee or disclose income.
á Request from
one father to not tell us what he's earning, pay $75 which he describes as a
"fair" price (he is likely earning much more than $100,000/year which is $75
for under 2 years old).
á Family started
last May, one week before we started asking for income. We let them come
without disclosing, for $75. They stopped last December. All other families in
that situation Ð paying what they decided was fair, no disclosure, have stopped
coming.
á This family
asked to come again in June, was told about new reduced price structure and
policy they needed to look at schedule, fill in the form and pay as
appropriate. Husband was out of town. Wife promised every week for 5 weeks they
have come that form will be here soon when dad returns from out of town,
meanwhile paying $75/visit. Finally dad called to say didn't want to fill in
the form. He said he considers $75 "fair". They know the value of the work, he
said, but won't come unless we accept his offer.
á Family prefers
to come when they can see both Ray and Jean. Next choice is Ray alone.
á Ray's
considerations. Doesn't want them to drop out. Child had open heart surgery at
5 months, needs another surgery.
á Jean is part
of the team, could see them privately (charges about $75)
á Sandra wants a
consistent policy for all families that they pay full amount or disclose income
so we can decide if we want to give a break.
á They could
either pay $150, disclose and pay appropriately or see Jean privately OR (my
least favorite) BEBA could accept $75 when Jean works without Ray (this brings
us back to different charges for Ray with or without another practitioner and
another facilitator on their own).
á Another family
with high income we stood firm that people in their income range pay
$150/session and mom and son are coming once a month, paying $150 each time,
instead of once a week.
7. Sandra has requested to pay her
as an employee with health insurance benefits for her and Ray, work it out so
BEBA's cost the same it is now as contract 15-20-25 for various work. Sandra
will wait for a raise until more money available. Researching health plans has
not started. Will if plan approved.
8. Need to develop a goal and a
wish list with price tags.
9. Set date for Next Board
meeting(s). Michael to attend by phone. May want an in person meeting if have
new board members. If not, maybe can do by phone. Castellinos out of town Oct
12-Nov 20. Dates below ok for Castellinos. Can't remember others
considerations. Think someone needed Monday night.
