BEBA Board Meeting REPORT 12/2/03
by Sandra Castellino
1. In bank account:
$9327.00.
2. Donations since last
board meeting
a. Tara Blasco: $6178
b. Dorothy and Bill
Adler $1000
c. Christie Barrack
$100
d. Ray & Sandra
Castellino $500
3. Workers Comp
secured for BEBA
a. It will cost about
$3600/year plus the almost $1000 deposit already paid.
b. Cost is 4.83% for
all employees and contract labor (so includes Sandra and Jean). 4.83% is what
they charge for doctors offices, not counselors. State Fund's rep said BEBA is
more like a doctors office since we touch clients. They count even clerical
workers this way Ð which they said they do for doctor's offices.
c. It was either buy
this or nothing and had taken since April to secure so bought it. State Fund is
required to insure everyone. It is possible there are other insurers but State
Farm and BEBA's liability insurer didn't want to offer us WC insurance.
d. Does not cover
volunteers.
e. Covers Ray as if he
earned $23,600/year. This is $1087/year for Ray. This is a state rule Ð if an
officer (President/secretary/treasurer) or Executive Director is actually
working in the business, then this is the lowest amount they can be covered
for, even if they are working 2 hours/month. If Ray were neither of these, then
they would refigure his WC according to how much he actually worked. They said
that he cannot be treated as a volunteer and be running the clinic.
4. Chris Wolfe is
working part time for BEBA October, 2002- January, 2003. He has been organizing
chart notes, the office, BEBA's computer, the tape backup system Ð he has been
paid $1739.00 so far.
5. Brochure progress
report
a. Brochure with
photos and trifold at Cheri & John McKinneys
b. Ready some time in
next few weeks.
6. "Santa Barbara
Treasures" videos are available to board members to distribute Ð please contact
Sandra about getting some for prospective families or donors.
7. Vision of needs in
the future.
a. BEBA can stay at
Castellinos, perhaps expand a bit made easier through remodeling, through 2005
or until we have an executive director raising funds for another space.
b. Professional
staffing possibilities for next few years.
i. Tara will begin co-facilitating with Ray as new families
start including BEBA's first non-English speaking Hispanic family which is also
BEBA's first multiple birth family (triplets) to start in February.
ii. Nancy wants to do only one day while in school, in
Santa Barbara. Maybe in a year or two she'd be interested in adding a 1/2 day
in Ojai.
iii. Jean is likely open to seeing more families.
iv. 3 videotapers: Mary Jackson, Cherionna Menzam and
Alison Greene-Barton are all experienced professionals, will all be completing
Ray's training and a cranial/sacral training by April 2004. Then they would be
eligible to assist. It will probably be another year before they are ready to
be full facilitators on their own. While they are assisting, BEBA doesn't need
more room for them. Once they become facilitators, probably in 2005, BEBA would
need more space for them.
8. Myrna possibility
of coming to US unknown Ð she's flying home today from national conference in
Montreal on infant mental health Ð she's doing presentations about her version
of the BEBA work to 15 groups of medical professionals in Canada starting in
January Ð doctors, nurses, psychologists. If she joins BEBA, we need a larger
space for her to see clients too but she could work at Ontare until money
secured is for a larger space.
